Its name is the Golf Ball Alignment Tool. In short, Scotty calls it the Ball Tool. It's USGA, R&A and PGA Tour conforming, and has been put in play by a number of touring professionals. This 1 3/16" square piece of milled stainless steel with a ball-shaped cut-out may just change the way you putt forever. The idea is simple. Use the line on your ball in conjunction with the milled lines and "tick" marks on the Ball Tool to envision the line you want to putt on. Whether it's the break you've chosen or a straight line to the cup, the Ball Tool was designed to help you find the line and make more putts. Here's how it works: Step 1When marking your ball on the green with the Ball Tool, take a look at your line or break and set the Ball Tool down along your chosen line using the three large milled lines on the Ball Tool to choose your general line or break to the hole. Then, pick up your ball. Step 2After picking up your ball, you can then step back and sight in your chosen line to the cup using the Ball Tool's three lines to create what Scotty calls the ''railroad effect''.
