Walter Spitzmiller Limited Edition Prints Walter Spitzmiller is one of the world's foremost sporting artists. He has over the past thirty years dedicated some of his finest work to portraying the many aspects of the game of golf, from its rich traditions to its heroes and most memorable competitions. Spitzmiller is perhaps best recognized for his many contributions to Golf Magazine and Sports Illustrated. He was the Chief Contributing Artist to Senior Golfer Magazine and special contributor to Outdoor Life for Jim Fergus' column "The Sporting Road”. Headed at upper margin: “The US Open Cherry Hills” Caption at lower margin headed: “On In One!” “With one swing golf's own Sultan of Swat gave birth to the charge!” Caption, in full: Arnold Palmer was seven strokes back beginning the final round of the 1960 U.S. open at Cherry Hills. Not intimidated, he slugged his drive to the middle of the green on the 346-yard first hole, made a birdie, turned the nine in 30 and finished with a 65 to win by two over amateur Jack Nicklaus. Also winner of The Masters that year, Palmer journeyed to St. Andrews to contest for the third leg of the Grand Slam. Four behind after three rounds, Palmer charged again but fell a stroke short of Kel Nagle.
